Two Decades of Growth: Revisiting a North London Garden in Bloom

This past week, we had the pleasure of returning to a garden in Crouch End that Gibbs & Haynes has been tending for over 20 years. It’s always rewarding to revisit a space where thoughtful planting and long-term care have transformed a garden into something truly special.

The spring display did not disappoint. The Wistaria was in full flourish, trailing its fragrant, lilac-hued blossoms gracefully along the terrace – a sight (and scent) to behold. Nearby, the mature Bramley apple tree was blushing with pink blossom, promising a good harvest later in the year.

Taking centre stage was a stunning Judas Tree, its bare branches cloaked in vivid purple flowers – a beautiful reminder of the rewards that come with patience and well-placed planting. Not to be outdone, the Cornus kousa stood proudly, its ivory-white bracts glowing in the spring sunshine, while another Cornus showed off rich, copper-coloured foliage, adding depth and contrast to the scene.

It was a veritable palette of colour and scent – the kind of garden that stirs the senses and lifts the spirit.

While the planting stole the show, our visit wasn’t just to admire the results. We carried out some light pruning to keep the space tidy, maintaining structure and encouraging healthy growth for the months ahead.

At Gibbs & Haynes, we don’t just plant trees and shrubs – we nurture long-term relationships with gardens and clients alike. This Crouch End garden is a shining example of what careful planning, regular maintenance, and an eye for seasonal beauty can achieve over time.

Whether you’re looking to establish a garden from scratch or need help maintaining an established one, our team of North London tree surgeons and horticultural specialists are here to help you create and sustain beautiful outdoor spaces.
